Words have creative power. Words can give life or words can kill. They can heal or destroy. Look at words like thought seeds planted in the garden of your mind and heart. The creative power of words can either grow and flourish your dreams into a blossoming fruit-bearing tree, or they can cripple and whither away your dreams into a diseased tree, shriveled up at the roots. I’ve watched too many dreams nearly get aborted because of other people’s unbelieving words, or because of their own destructive self-talk. When it comes to dreams, we need to take the power of words seriously. We can never let our own words, or the words of another, allow us to believe a lie that will convince us to abort our dream. Today, decide that you won’t let your dreams die because somebody else told you “it will never happen.” If ever you hear words like this, all you need to do is close your ears, walk away, and graciously move on to another subject (or out of the room!). Below is a common list of LIES you may hear when you share your dream with someone else…

“You’re crazy!”
“That’s impossible.”
“You’ve lost your mind.”
“You’re too old.”
“You’re too young.”
“You can’t afford it.”
“You need to be realistic.”
“What do you think you’re special?”
“You don’t have enough time.”
“You’re an average person, nothing happens to average people.”
“That idea will never sell.”
“That’s been done before.”
“It’s never gonna happen.”
“It’s too hard.”
“You have no idea how to do that. I mean, you’re not even in that industry.”
“You have a family to provide for.  You can’t possibly take care of your kids and do this.”
“No one in your family ever did anything important, why should it happen to you?”
“Stop Dreaming. Face reality.”
“Get your head out of the clouds.”
“You are living in a fantasy world.”
“You can’t possibly quit your job.”
“You don’t come from a family of risk-takers. Be practical.”
“One day.”

And the list goes on…

DON’T EVER ALLOW ANYONE ELSE THE POWER TO FRAME YOUR FUTURE AND DETERMINE YOUR DREAMS. YOUR DREAMS BELONGS TO YOU, THE DREAMER. DON’T GIVE THEM AWAY.
